Adopting a rescue dog can be one of the most rewarding events in your life. If you and your dog are the right match for one another in personality and energy level the experience can be pure magic.
Choosing a dog based on looks or incomplete information can be disastrous for both you and the dog. We work very hard to ensure that our placements are great fits for both parties. We rehabilitate and train all our dogs in basic manners and obedience using the most up-to-date positive techniques so that you have a solid base of communication and your dog has a toolbox of desirable default behaviours, such as an automatic sit or “sit-to-say-please”. Our dogs understand these cues and perform them reliably before they are listed as ready for adoption, thus setting them up for success in their new homes.
We expose each of our dogs to as many different life scenarios as possible to find out if they have issues such as chasing bicycles or leash reactivity. If we find problems, we train to reduce or repair them. We have full dossiers on each of our dogs to help you get a sense of what the dog is like, and we believe in full disclosure-both the good and the bad.
Our adoption application is thorough, and helps us get a sense of your family, lifestyle, exercise level, and expectations and desires in a companion dog. We follow up with a telephone interview, and with post placement home checks to ensure that both you and the dog are happy and adjusting to one another. We stand behind our dogs and will take our dogs back at any time and for any reason if the adoption is not working out.
We support our adopters with training support; virtual through e-mail, videos, and recommended reading, and locally through a network of great, positive based trainers and classes in Antigua and in the San Francisco Bay area. We are always available to consult.
There is no such thing as a perfect dog. But there is a perfect dog for YOU. This is is our goal; matching you with the perfect dog for you and your family.
