Annual Reports

Transparency and trust are at the heart of everything we do. Our Annual Reports offer an in-depth look at our journey each year as we work to reduce the number of stray dogs through vital sterilization clinics.

These reports share our achievements, challenges, and how we responsibly manage the generous support we receive. We’re proud to share our progress with you and hope these reports illuminate the impact we’re making together.

A Year of Impact: 2024 Highlights

In 2024, Unidos Para los Animales (UPA) sharpened our focus on what has become our core mission: reducing the free-roaming animal population in Guatemala through sterilization and education. While we shifted away from shelter operations in previous years, 2024 saw a strengthening and expansion of our vital mobile sterilization clinics and Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release (TNVR) efforts.

Here’s a snapshot of what we achieved with the incredible dedication of our volunteers and local partners:

  • We sterilized a total of 1,724 animals in 2024 – approximately 200 more than in 2023!

    • 1,537 dogs and cats through 20 mobile spay/neuter clinics held in various communities around Antigua Guatemala.
    • An additional 187 street animals through dedicated TNVR efforts.
  • Beyond sterilizations, UPA provided vaccinations and other essential medications to many animals, including those at their clinics and others in vulnerable situations, like litters found in abandoned areas.

  • A significant development was the opening of the Panorama Vet Clinic by two UPA board members and volunteers, providing a crucial asset for ongoing spay/neuter efforts, especially for the TNVR program and medical emergencies.

  • UPA continued its educational outreach, distributing our activity book ¿Cómo cuidar a mi chucho? and creating a public mural in Parramos to promote animal welfare and sterilization.

  • A successful fundraiser luncheon raised enough to sterilize an additional 400 animals.
  • The team welcomed visiting veterinarians Dr. Jim Bader and Dr. Laureen Bartfield, who helped spay and neuter 420 animals during a week-long series of clinics in November.

  • UPA also supported local rescuer Cristy Velasco with an $800 donation to aid her incredible efforts in caring for hundreds of dogs.
