Chester

Chester is a fabulous young dog. We aren’t sure of his mix, but he looks like a cross of some kind of hound and Ridgeback (although his only ridge is the cowlick on the top of his nose).

He appeared one night in front of the condominium of one of our board members. He was in great shape, clean, friendly, and clearly loved and well-treated. He had no collar or ID on him. She assumed that he was lost and brought him in and posted him. We never had even one inquiry about him. So we imagine that whoever had him dumped him, knowing that he would likely be picked up in that area.

We are just boggled that anyone would dump a dog this lovely. He is an absolute gem and in addition to his stunning good looks, he is very affectionate and playful. He loves, loves, loves people. He is goofy and silly and a lot of fun. He likes all the other dogs. And he is smart and easy to motivate with food and pets.

Chester is young-probably about 10 months old. He weighs about 70 lbs and has a short, silky soft coat. He has the most soulful eyes we’ve ever seen. Chester is a LOT of dog! He loves everyone and everydog. With abandon. And maybe a little too enthusiastically! We are working on polite greetings and explaining to him the term “bull in a china shop”. He hasn’t got a mean bone in his body and he is so much fun!

Chester is not doing well at the rescue as we have to keep him separated from the younger, more tender dogs as he just overwhelms them. He will need adopters willing to continue to reinforce polite greetings, sit-to-say-please, and to work on impulse control behaviors like down-stay, wait, and leave it.

Chester has a great recall and stays close on walks. He walks on leash with a front-attach harness and we are conditioning him with a Gentle Leader to help decrease leash pulling.

He is neutered and has been vaccinated. Chester is more than ready for a family and could be adopted anytime. Because of his size and exuberance, we feel he would do best in an adult family until his manners are stronger.
