Gemma is one of four sweet female puppies we brought in from near the Cerro de la Cruz above Antigua. Her mother dug a den at the bottom of a dirt ditch and was caring for her puppies there. The mother apparently has ‘owners’, but they don’t really care for their dogs. Gemma and her sisters were doing well in the hole, but would have drowned with the first heavy rain.
We took the puppies along with their mother to the rescue. Mama is very sweet, an excellent mother, and she is now spayed and vaccinated. We will return her to the area where she lived as she does have people feeding her, and food is plentiful nearby as the hill is a tourist destination.
Gemma is now about 3 months old. She is very healthy and growing up playful and sweet. All the puppies love people and do great with dogs as they have been surrounded by them since coming to the rescue.
She is learning basic behaviors, and is getting lots of great socialization in town with our volunteers.
She is available for local adoption, and for international in a month after she has been spayed.
