Dembe

Dembe was rescued by Francesca. This little guy had been tied into a plastic bag with another sibling and tossed like garbage into a semi-abandoned coffee farm. A kind farm worker found them and saved them. The sibling was okay, but Dembe had a huge open wound on his back. Flies had laid eggs in it and he had maggots crawling around in the wound. The worker contacted Francesca as he thought the puppy would die.

Dembe almost did die. The wound was infected and had over 30 maggots in it. He had a large swelling on his abdomen, and he was anemic and malnourished. He is quite a fighter and with good care and food he survived.

Dembe was first fostered with the wonderful Lay and her husband. He recovered with her loving care, and when he was strong enough, he came to stay with Tessa and Gerson and their crew of dogs and puppies. Dembe has come to our weekly training and socialization days and he is doing great.

He is a gentle, friendly puppy, but a little on the reserved side. We think he would do best in a home with adults or older children. He likes kids fine, but can be overwhelmed with too much noise or action. Dembe would do great with another dog friend to keep him company.

He is neutered, fully vaccinated, and healthy and healed. He is ready for adoption now.

We are a small organization dedicated to helping dogs and cats in Antigua. We sterilize, rehabilite and find homes, and work with other rescue groups.
